The food industry must rid its products of partially hydrogenated oils by June 18, 2018 in a government-led effort to prevent cardiovascular disease. The FDA decision states trans fatty acid (TFA) is no longer considered “GRAS” or generally recognized as safe.
Advocates are calling this a “historic win for public health,” according to POLITICO, while the food industry, who had anticipated the ruling, braces itself for impending litigation.
