The seat is vacant after Sen. Greg Kirk died in December after a battle with cancer.
A runoff election is scheduled for March 3 if no candidate receives a majority of the vote during the special election.

The House seat will become vacant on January 8 when Rep. Jen Benson, a Lunenberg Democrat, will resign to become president of the Alliance for Business Leadership.
The primary special election for Benson’s replacement will be held on March 3 and the general special election will be held on March 31.

On February 4, 2020, special elections will be held to fill vacancies in Minnesota House Districts 30A and 60A.
Rep. Diane Loeffler, a Democrat from Minneapolis, died in November creating the vacancy in District 60A.
Rep. Nick Zerwas, a Republican from Elk River, resigned from District 30A on December 6 to focus on spending time with his family.
The special primary for District 30A will be held January 14, while the special primary for District 60A will be held January 21.
The later date for District 60A accommodates college students living in the district who return that day to the University of Minnesota for spring semester.

Rep. Paul Brodeur, a Democrat, resigned after winning the Melrose mayoral election.
Sen. Vinny DeMacedo, Republican from Plymouth, stepped down to become director of regional partnerships at Bridgewater State University.
The 32nd Middlesex primary election will be held on February 4, and a general election will be held on March 3.
The Plymouth and Barnstable primary election will be held on March 3, and a general election will be held on March 31.

Secretary of State Nellie M. Gorbea has announced special election dates for Rhode Island House District 56.
The seat became vacant when Rep. Shelby Maldonado, a Providence Democrat, resigned to be Hispanic Outreach Director for the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC).
Assuming more than one candidate from either major party qualifies for the ballot, the special primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 4.
The general election will be held on Tuesday, March 3.

Both the Baltimore City and Baltimore County state central committees are now accepting resumes and will make a recommendation to Gov. Larry Hogan.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced that Melvin Gillis has been selected to fill the vacant South Anchorage state House of Representatives District 25 seat.
The seat became vacant when Josh Revak was confirmed to the Senate seat that was held by Sen. Chris Birch, who passed away in August.
Gillis was one of three candidates picked by local party officials.
House Republicans will have to approve the appointment.
