Gov. Greg Abbott has scheduled a November 5 special election for House District 148.

The Houston seat’s representative, Democrat Jessica Farrar, has served in the Texas House for 25 years, but is stepping down to care for her mother.

The special election will be on the same day as the state’s general municipal elections.

The Alaska Republican Party must select three nominees to forward to the governor to fill the vacant Senate District M seat.

The vacancy was created by the sudden passing of Senator Chris Birch.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy will make the final selection from the three nominees.

The Republicans in the Senate must agree with the governor’s choice before the nominee gets sworn in.

A self-imposed deadline for receiving applications has been set for August 18.

Gov. Matt Bevin announced a special election for the vacated 63rd House District seat.

The special election will be held on November 5, the same day as the general election.

Rep. Diane St. Onge resigned from the 63rd House seat on August 12, citing a new marriage and move out to California.

Sometime on or before February 2, 2020, a by-election must be held for the seat in the Legislative Assembly of Ontario for the electoral district of Ottawa-Vanier.

On August 2, the Chief Electoral Officer of Ontario received a notice of vacancy for the position from the Assembly.

MPP Nathalie Des Rosiers, who had announced her intention to leave office on May 16, resigned on July 31 to begin working August 1 as the Principal of Massey College at the University of Toronto.

Any by-election in the province must be called within six months of the Chief Electoral Officer receiving notice of the vacancy.

A special election for the Providence City Council Ward 10 seat has been set for November 5, with a primary on October 8.

Luis Aponte resigned from the Ward 10 seat after pleading no contest to embezzling money from his campaign.

The Board of Elections announced potential candidates must declare their candidacy on August 29 and 30.

Republican leaders representing state House District 55 have selected three candidates to replace recently resigned Rep. Mike McLane.

McLane resigned on July 1 to become a judge on the 22nd Judicial District Circuit Court.

Vikki Iverson, Deborah Tilden, and Peter Sharp were chosen during the meeting in La Pine.

The final decision will be made by county commissioners from areas within the district.

A decision must be made by August 13.

The appointee will fill out the remaining portion of McLane’s two-year term and will have to run for the office in 2020.

On July 31, three members of the Nova Scotia House of Assembly will resign their positions to seek federal positions.

The members, Chris D’Entremont, Alfie MacLeod, and Eddie Orrell, have been nominated as candidates for the Conservative Party of Canada.

The three are required to step down before the writ period begins for the fall elections.

By-elections for the soon-to-be-vacant provincial seats have not been yet been called.

A special election will take place on November 5 for City Council District 1.

The Long Beach City Council adopted a resolution at the July 9 meeting to conduct a special municipal election.

Lena Gonzalez relinquished the District 1 seat after winning the state Senate District 33 seat.

The council’s adoption of the resolution included a request to the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to have the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk run the special election in November.

Gov. Brian Kemp announced a special election to fill the vacancy in House District 71 on September 3.

The seat was vacated by the resignation of Rep. David Stover on June 25.

Rep. Stover was facing an ethics complaint regarding his residency and resigned to spend more time with his wife in the United Kingdom.

The winner of the special election will complete Stover’s term until 2020.

On June 21, Gov. Kim Reynolds called a special election for House District 46.

The special election will fill the vacancy left by the resignation of State Representative Lisa Heddens.

Heddens resigned on June 17 to serve on the Story County Board of Supervisors.

Reynolds has set the special election for August 6.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced a special primary election for Assembly District 1 on August 27.

The seat is vacant after Brian Dahle won the June 4 special election to fill Senate District 1 seat.

Unless one candidate receives more than 50% of the vote, the top two candidates in the special primary election will face off in a special general election.

Assembly District one covers portions of the Northeastern part of California.

A special election will take place on August 20 followed by a runoff election on November 5.

The elections will fill a vacancy in House District 42.

Former Rep. Jimmy Martin held the seat until his passing in May.

A special primary election will take place on July 30 followed by a special election on October 1 to fill a vacancy in House District 84.

The seat is vacant after former Rep. Ronnie Young passed away in May.

A special primary runoff election is scheduled for August 31.

A special election will take place on August 13 with a primary expected July 16 to fill a vacancy in Ald. District 13.

Former Rep. Terry Witkowski, 74, resigned after serving since 2003.
