Rep. Mike Glanton resigned this past week after serving 14 years in the state House.

Glanton was a Democrat who represented House District 75, which consists of Clayton County.

Gov. Brian Kemp set the special election for March 21. A runoff will be scheduled if necessary.

Three special elections have been scheduled for February 28, to fill vacant seats in the state’s Assembly District 6, 100, and 148.

The Assembly District 6 seat was vacated by Rep. Edwin Vargas when he resigned to pursue an academic post.

The Assembly District 148 seat was vacated when Rep. Daniel Fox resigned to accept an anticipated judicial nomination.

The Assembly District 100 seat was vacated when Rep. Quentin Williams was killed in a car crash earlier this month.

The winner of each election on February 28 will serve the remainder of each term, all of which expire at the end of 2024.

A special election has been set for February 27, to fill the seat recently vacated by former Commissioner Ken Russell.

Commissioners had 10 days to appoint a replacement to serve out the remainder of Russell’s term but could not find a consensus candidate.

District 2 comprises portions of Coconut Grove, Brickell, Edgewater, Morningside and downtown.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced a special election on February 21, 2023, to fill the vacancy in Senate District 19 created by the resignation of Senator Morgan McGarvey.

Under state law, when a legislator vacancy occurs while lawmakers are not in session, the Governor may call the special election.

McGarvey is resigning from the position because he was elected U.S. representative for Kentucky’s 3rd congressional district.

Gov. Ron DeSantis scheduled a special primary and election to replace former state Rep. Joe Harding who resigned after he was indicted on charges of wire fraud, money laundering, and making false statements.

Harding previously represented House District 24.

The special primary is scheduled for March 7 with the special election following on May 16.

The Office of Secretary of State is expected to announce reporting dates for any PACs making contributions or expenditures to influence the elections.

A special election has been scheduled to be held on February 21 in New Hampshire.

The special election is necessary after the Rochester House race between Republican David Walker and Democrat Rep. Chuck Grassie ended in a tie earlier this year.

Virginia Gov. Youngkin announced a special election to replace the late Del. Ronnie Campbell will take place January 10, 2023.

Del. Campbell passed away this past week after a battle with cancer.

Campbell represented the 24^th District of the Virginia House of Delegates.

His wife, Ellen Campbell has announced that she will run for her late husband’s seat.

As a result of a struggle over who holds a majority in the Pennsylvania state House, lawmakers scheduled special elections on two different dates to fill the same two vacancies.

Democratic leadership scheduled special elections to fill vacancies in House District 34 and 35 for February 7, 2023, while Republican leadership scheduled them for May 16, 2023.

A lawsuit filed by Republican representatives will likely determine when the special elections will be held and which party has the power to schedule them.

Milwaukee Common Council President José G. Pérez called a special election to be held on April 4, 2023, to fill the vacant aldermanic seats in districts 1, 5, and 9.

If a primary election is necessary to fill any of these seats, it will be held on February 21, 2023.

Gov. Bill Lee has set upcoming election dates to fill Tennessee House District 86.

The seat was vacated upon the death of Democratic State Rep. Barbara Cooper in late October at the age of 93.

Tennessee allowed her name to remain on the November ballot where she won.

A primary election will be held on January 24, 2023 with the general election being held on March 14, 2023.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves called a special election to be held to replace House District 23 Rep. Jim Beckett.

House District 23 covers portions of Grenada, Calhoun, Lafayette, and Webster counties.

The seat became vacant when Beckett resigned to become the director of the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff.

The special election will be held on January 10, 2023.

City Council approved a special election to fill the empty District 6 seat on April 4, 2023, with a runoff taking place June 27 if necessary.

The election follows Nury Martinez’s resignation after a leaked conversation about redistricting was made public.

In the recording, Martinez with fellow council members Gil Cedillo and Kevin De Leon were heard using racist and demeaning language when discussing how to manipulate the city’s redistricting process.

After pressure for all three to resign, only Martinez has stepped down.

Virginia State Delegate Mark Keam resigned from his seat on Tuesday after representing House District 35 for over a decade.

Keam will now join the Department of Commerce and the Office of National Travel and Tourism in the International Trade Administration.

Speaker of the House Todd Gilbert announced a special election will be held on January 10, 2023, just one day before the General Assembly starts its 2023 session.

Gov. Eric Holcomb called a special election to be held for Indiana’s 2nd Congressional District on November 8 to fill the vacancy created by the death of U.S. Rep. Jackie Walorski following a tragic car accident on August 3.

Due to the timing of the vacancy, the state committee of each political party will select a candidate to be placed on the ballot by August 26.
