City Council passed a resolution calling for a special election to fill the vacancy in District 2 and the vacancy for mayor created by the most recent recall election.

Mayor Shen Thao previously represented the city as mayor but left following his recall in last year’s election.

Former city council member Nikki Fortunato Bas was elected to the county board of supervisors leaving District 2 vacant.

The special election to fill these vacancies will be held April 15.

Gov. Tim Walz issued the second writ of special election within a week to fill the vacancy in Senate District 60 created by the death of Senator Kari Dziedzic.

The special election will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025, along with the special election for House District 40B.

Due to the number of candidates running, a special primary election will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

After the party decided to back one candidate for the vacancy in House District 40B, all other candidates withdrew so there will be no special primary for House District 40B.

A special primary election will be held March 11 for the state Senate District 5 seat.

If necessary, a special primary runoff election will be held April 8 and the special general election is scheduled for June 24.

This election is the result of Senate President Pro Tempore Greg Reed vacating his seat following appointment to a senior advisor position with the Alabama Department of Workforce.

The special election will be held April 15.

Chavez will be leaving the position following his election to the Fresno County Board of Supervisors.

A few candidates have already declared their intentions of running for the vacant council seat, including Chavez’s wife, Elizabeth Jonasson Rosas, who is a current Fresno Unified Trustee.

The special primary election will be held March 18, 2025.

Gov. Tim Walz issued a writ of special election to fill the vacant seat in House District 40B following the resignation of Representative-elect Curtis Johnson.

The special election will be held on Tuesday, January 28, 2025.

If necessary, a special primary election will be held on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.

Johnson won the seat by more than 30% at the Nov. 5 election, but a district judge ruled last Friday the DFL candidate did not meet the residency requirement to serve the district.

Gov. Kim Reynolds called a special election for January 28, 2025, to fill the Senate District 35 vacancy caused by the resignation of Sen. Chris Cournoyer.

Cournoyer resigned effective December 16 when Gov. Reynolds appointed her lieutenant governor.

Prince George’s County will hold another special election to fill an open County Council seat.

This election is to replace U.S. Senator-elect Alsobrooks and will be expedited due to the fact the county has gone almost a full year with a 5-5 split, which has caused significant delays in budgetary and legislative proceedings.

The special primary election will be held on March 4, 2025, and the special general election will be held on May 27, 2025.

Gov. Gavin Newsom released a proclamation declaring that a special election will be held next year for Senate District 36 and Assembly District 32.

The seat for Assembly District 32 was vacated by Republican Vince Fong after winning a seat for congress and replacing former speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy.

The seat for Senate District 36 had been vacated after Republican Janet Nguyen was elected to the Orange County Board of Supervisors.

The special primary election for these seats will be held on February 25, 2025.

The special general election will be held on April 29, 2025.

A special primary election will be held January 28 for Florida’s congressional House district 1 and House district 6.

This will be followed by a special general election on April 1.

These elections are the result of Rep. Matt Gaetz and Rep. Mike Waltz being tapped for positions in the new administration.

Both seats have candidates that have been endorsed by President-elect Donald Trump and those endorsed are favored to win.

Gov. Greg Abbott has set a special election to fill the seat left open by U.S. Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee.

Rep. Jackson Lee passed away on July 19 due to pancreatic cancer.

She was one of the longest serving members of the Texas congressional delegation and served the 18^th congressional district.

The election has been set to coincide with the November 5, general election.

The winner will fill the seat for the remainder of the term.

A special election has been called for August 6 to replace At-Large Councilmember Mel Franklin, who resigned in June.

Thirteen candidates have announced their registration to run.

This primary will include both Democrat and Republican candidates and the winners of the primary will be added to the general election ballot on November 5.

The winner will serve the remaining two years in Franklin’s term.

A special election for Senate District 45 will take place on the day of the general election, November 5.

Sen. Kelly Morrison, Assistant Majority Leader, announced Thursday she is resigning her seat to launch her bid to represent Minnesota’s 3rd Congressional District.

The vacancy triggers a special election putting Democrats’ one-seat Senate majority in play this November.

State Rep. John Rogers resigned from his House District 52 seat on March 13 after pleading guilty to federal conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges related to a grant program.

A special primary election for House District 52 will be held on June 18 and a runoff on July 16, if necessary.

The general election is set for October 1.
