Coulda Been Worse LLC has dumped more than $25 million into ads opposing Gov. Greg Abbott and other top Republicans. Since forming out of state in late August, Coulda Been Worse has not revealed its donors or leadership. Ethics experts and open government advocates say voters deserve to know who is trying to influence elections.

It advocates for refraining from doing business with the Israeli government or companies that benefit from Israel’s occupation of the Palestinian territories. Texas passed an anti-BDS law but pared it down later, excluding sole proprietorships, companies with nine or less employees, and contracts under $100,000. A company sued Houston and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, seeking an injunction ordering the city to remove the clause from its contract offer and declare the law unconstitutional.

The OCF ordered Silverman to return $62,000 for the cost of two polls she commissioned ahead of the June primary.

Wisconsin – Military Ballots in Wisconsin Will Be Counted Under Judge’s Ruling

A judge declined to delay or prevent the counting of military ballots in Wisconsin in a lawsuit that came after a disaffected election worker said she reached a “breaking point” and created three fake ballots to highlight flaws in the state’s voting system. Kimberly Zapata, who at the time was Milwaukee’s deputy elections director, told prosecutors she ordered the fake ballots because she was frustrated by Republicans focusing on baseless claims instead of actual weaknesses in Wisconsin’s voting procedures. Prosecutors charged Zapata with felony misconduct in office, and she was fired from her position with the city.

Incumbent Democratic Gov. Tony Evers narrowly won the gubernatorial race over Republican Tim Michaels.

With 95% of votes counted, Evers prevailed over Michaels by just over 3 percentage points.

Independent candidate Joan Ellis Beglinger pulled in just one percent of the vote.

Eleanor Holmes Norton won reelection as the delegate to the U.S. House of Representatives from the District of Columbia.

As a delegate, Norton’s seat in the House permits her the right of debate and all other privileges of U.S. representatives except for the ability to vote with the body.

Norton, a Democrat, will now serve a sixteenth consecutive term in office.

Oye Ooltewah won reelection as the District of Columbia’s Shadow Representative.

Unlike the District’s non-voting Delegate to the House, the Shadow Representative is not able to vote in both floor votes and committee votes and is not recognized as an actual member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Along with Owolewa’s goal to achieve statehood for the District, the underlying goal of all shadow representatives, he has expressed an objective of ending federal taxes for the District until it achieves full political representation.

Ooltewah was first elected to the seat in 2020.

Incumbent Republican Gov. Mike DeWine handily won re-election in Ohio.

As of Wednesday morning, with 95% of votes counted, DeWine prevailed over Democratic candidate Nan Whaley by roughly 25 percentage points.

Florida Democrat Maxwell Frost has won the seat for Florida’s 10^th Congressional District.

Frost becomes the first member of Generation Z to serve in the United States Congress.

Frost defeated his Republican opponent Calvin Wimbish and will succeed the current Democratic Representative Val Demings.

Voters in Toledo, Ohio defeated Issue 19, a charter amendment that would have made the amendment process consistent with the process in the Ohio Constitution.

The Amendment would have also reduced the number of signatures required for an elector to initiate an ordinance or referendum from 12% to 7% of the total number of votes cast for all candidates for mayor at the most recent general municipal election.

The Amendment would have also increased the term limit for mayor from two to three consecutive terms.

The Amendment would have also increased the limit for contracts or purchases can be made without authorization by appropriate legislation from $10,000 to $25,000.

King County, Washington voters have approved Charter Amendment 1.

The amendment moves elections for county executive, county assessor, county director of elections, and county council members to even-numbered years.

For each position currently in an odd-year term, the current term is changed to a three year term to move to an even-numbered schedule.
