Rep. Brenda Kupchick resigned from the House District 132 seat on November 22 to assume office as chief elected official of Fairfield.

Sen. Shirley Nathan-Pulliam announced she is retiring from the Maryland State Senate District 44 seat, effective December 1.
Nathan-Pulliam cited health issues as the reason for stepping down from the seat.
Both the Baltimore City and Baltimore County state central committees are now accepting resumes and will make a recommendation to Gov. Larry Hogan.
Gov. Hogan officially makes the appointment to fill the vacant seat.

Williams is replacing Del. Tawanna Gaines, who resigned last month after pleading guilty in federal court to illegally using campaign funds for personal benefit.
Gov. Hogan appointed Williams following the unanimous recommendations by the Prince George’s County Democratic Central Committee.

Gov. Mike Dunleavy announced that Melvin Gillis has been selected to fill the vacant South Anchorage state House of Representatives District 25 seat.
The seat became vacant when Josh Revak was confirmed to the Senate seat that was held by Sen. Chris Birch, who passed away in August.
Gillis was one of three candidates picked by local party officials.
House Republicans will have to approve the appointment.

Gov. Gavin Newsom set March 3, 2020, as the date for the special elections to fill the vacant 25th Congressional District seat and 28th Senate District seat.
The 25th Congressional District seat became vacant when former Rep. Katie Hill resigned amid allegations that she violated House ethics rules.
The 28th Senate District seat became vacant when former Sen. Jeff Stone resigned to accept an appointment to become the U.S. Department of Labor’s western regional director.
A runoff election will be held on May 12 if no candidate wins a majority.
March 3 is also the scheduled date for California’s 2020 presidential primary election.

State Senator Viriato deMacedo announced he will resign from office within the next few weeks.
Sen. deMacedo will begin employment as the Director of Regional Partnerships with Bridgewater State University.
Sen. deMacedo, who has been serving in the Senate for the Plymouth and Barnstable District since 2015, was first elected to the state legislature as a representative in 1998. He held that seat until his move to the Senate.
“I’ve done this for 21 years and it’s been phenomenal, but everything has a season,” deMacedo told the Cape Cod Times.
A date for a special election to fill the upcoming vacancy has not yet been determined.
