The Iowa Legislature adjourned on Friday, June 5, 2015, after the Senate approved a state budget of $7.3 billion, effective for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2015.

Gov. Terry Branstad now has 30 days to approve or reject the budget.

Gov. Susana Martinez has called for a special session to begin today, June 8, 2015.

Lawmakers will reconvene to continue work on a public works package they were unsuccessful in passing during the regular legislative session.

Senate Majority Leader Michael Sanchez is hopeful the session will only last one day.

Gov. Susana Martinez and leaders of the House and Senate have agreed to a special session.

The session will focus on three pieces of legislation, including funding for state highways, senior centers, and higher education.

The governor will officially announce the special session soon, but the expected start date is June 8, 2015.

The first regular session of the 121st South Carolina General Assembly adjourned Thursday, June 4, without reaching an agreement on a budget for the state’s next fiscal year.

The legislature will return to Columbia for a three-day special session starting June 16.

It is also expected to return later in June for a second special session to deal with vetoes and to determine how to use more than $300 million in state surplus funds.

The Alabama Legislature adjourned sine die Thursday, June 4, 2015. However, Gov. Robert Bentley is likely to call a special session because there is no state budget in place for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2015.

The state Senate approved a budget but Bentley termed the Senate’s plan ‘unworkable’ and thus vetoed it. The House overrode the veto, but the Senate had adjourned for the summer before an override vote could be taken.

On June 4, the Ontario, Canada Legislature adjourned the first session of the 41st Parliament.

The body is scheduled to reconvene its second session on September 14, 2015.

The General Assembly adjourned sine die on June 3, 2015, shortly before its midnight deadline.

Both chambers voted to return for a special session, however, to finish work on bills related to the budget.

A date for the special session has not yet been set.

The 99th Illinois General Assembly adjourned its spring session on May 31, 2015. Pursuant to House Joint Resolution 85 and upon the call of the Speaker and Senate President, both chambers will remain in continuous session after failing to reach a conclusion on a balanced budget by Sunday’s scheduled adjournment deadline.

The House stands adjourned until Thursday, June 4; the Senate stands adjourned until Tuesday, June 9. Legislators must work quickly to agree on a balanced budget before the new fiscal year begins on July 1.

The 2015 78th Regular Session of the Nevada Legislature adjourned sine die on June 1, 2015. Once the governor receives any remaining bills passed by the Legislature, he has 10 days to veto or sign the legislation.

Today the Legislature adjourned sine die. Gov. Greg Abbott has 20 days after transmittal of bills sent at the end of the session to sign or veto the legislation. If the governor does not act on a bill, it becomes law.

The North Dakota Legislature is set to reconvene for a special session on June 16, 2015. The House and Senate failed to reach an agreement during the regular session on a budget bill for the public employee retirement system and the state retirement and investment office.

Only two days remain of the 80 legislative days allowed every two years, but leaders of both chambers are confident a compromise will be reached in time.

The Washington Legislature adjourned its first special session on Thursday, May 28, 2015, only to immediately convene a second special session on Friday, May 29, 2015.

Gov. Jay Inslee called the second special session as a result of lawmakers’ inability to agree on a budget during the first special session.

Lawmakers must come to a budgetary agreement by July 1, 2015, or the state government could face a shutdown.

The first session of the 104th Legislature adjourned sine die today, May 29, 2015, on the 89th day of the scheduled 90-day session.

Senators passed 272 bills into law, including an $8.7 billion two-year budget.

The second session of the 104th Legislature is scheduled to convene on January 6, 2016.

The First Extraordinary Session of the 90th General Assembly adjourned on Thursday, May 28.

Lawmakers spent much of the three day session discussing, and ultimately approving, a bill to move the state’s 2016 primary and nonpartisan judicial elections from May 20 to March 1.
