Lawmakers concluded the fall veto session on November 9, after passing Senate Bill 76 lifting Illinois’ moratorium on nuclear power plant construction in 2026.

Neither chamber voted on legislation extending the Invest in Kids Scholarship Tax Credit Program.

It allows people to donate to private school scholarship programs and receive a 75 percent tax credit.

Vermont legislature held a veto session on Tuesday, June 20.

During the day-long session, lawmakers successfully overrode five gubernatorial vetoes.

The bills now passed include House Bill 217, which institutes a new payroll tax to raise revenue for child care, and House Bill 305 relating to the Secretary of State’s Office of Professional Regulation.

Notably, lawmakers also overrode the Governor’s veto on the 2024 state budget thanks to a 105-42 vote in the House and a 25-5 vote in the Senate.

The three bills that were vetoed but did not come up for a vote during the override session are eligible to be overridden when the legislature reconvenes in January 2024.

The Kansas Legislature adjourned its special veto session just after 2 a.m. on April 29.

During the recently concluded veto session, the Legislature passed the omnibus spending bill to fund public schools and special education.

Typically, upon veto adjournment, the Legislature sets sine die, the last official day of the session. This year, the Legislature set a date to return of May 23, leaving the session open in case court rulings on congressional maps would require further legislative action.

This does not affect lobbying dates.

The Illinois Legislature canceled the veto session originally scheduled for this week and December 1-3, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

State lawmakers hope to meet in January, though no date has been set.

Generally, the veto session, a short session in the fall, is used to override bills that have been vetoed and resolve conflicts with the governor.

There are no vetoes to address this year, but lawmakers could address other matters.

The next General Assembly will be inaugurated on January 13, 2021.

Therefore, the veto session would have to take place before then if it is held.

Lawmakers are back in Springfield for a six-day abbreviated veto session to address major laws passed earlier this year.

The veto session convened October 28 through October 30, and reconvenes from November 12 through November 14.

The veto session agenda includes reviewing video gambling, marijuana, and vaping legislation.

The General Court of New Hampshire is set to reconvene this week for a veto session over 55 bills vetoed by Gov. Chris Sununu.

The Legislature will discuss bills relating to firearm sales, renewal energy, and campaign finance transparency.

Lawmakers will review Senate Bill 156 concerning political contributions by limited liability companies.

The bill requires political contributions made by a limited liability company to be allocated to members for the purpose of contribution limits.

The House of Representatives is scheduled to meet for two days on September 18 and 19. The Senate is scheduled for one day on Thursday, September 19.

Missouri lawmakers are back in Jefferson City for the annual veto session, beginning September 11 at 12 p.m. at the Missouri State Capitol.

The veto session gives lawmakers the ability to overturn any of Gov. Mike Parson’s six vetoes.

Two widely debated vetoes include outdoor cremations and whether to let motorcyclists ride without a helmet.

A two-thirds vote in the House and the Senate is needed to overturn a veto.

The veto session is running at the same time as a special session, which Gov. Parson called to address a vehicle tax credit issue.

A veto session is scheduled to convene next week; however, lawmakers in the Senate have already decided not to challenge Gov. Dannel Malloy’s line-item veto cutting more than $20 million in municipal aid.

Democratic leadership in the House will instead hold a closed-door caucus during the June 20 session. An override of the veto needed to start in the Senate because the budget bill originated there.

Most lawmakers are unhappy with the cuts, but Democrats, who control both houses, have chosen not to fight this particular battle with the governor.

Gov. Peter Shumlin vetoed Senate Bill 230, an energy siting bill, and House Bill 518, dealing with the Clean Water Fund Board.

Regarding the Senate bill, Shumlin’s veto message indicated he wants to pass the bill, but would need certain changes. Proponents of the measure are hoping for a quick fix to return it to the governor’s desk.

Lawmakers returned Monday, July 20, 2015 for a one-day, constitutionally mandated session to consider overrides of the governor’s vetoes.

Democratic majority leaders of both chambers announced there was not enough support for any such override, stating it would be best to revisit any points of contention during the next regular session.

Missouri state lawmakers returned to Jefferson City today to start the veto session.

During the regular session, Gov. Jay Nixon vetoed 33 regular bills and made line-item vetoes to hundreds of items in the state operating budget.

Lawmakers were expected to prepare for a three-day session due to the historical number of vetoes to consider.

The General Assembly reconvened for a one-day session on April 3, 2013, to consider the governor’s vetoes and amendments.

Up for consideration were 80 bills for which Governor McDonnell offered amendments, including the state’s landmark transportation bill, and six vetoed bills.

The General Assembly accepted a number of the governor’s amendments to the transportation bill, including a reduction of fees on alternative-fuel vehicles and a reduction of lodging and vehicle-titling taxes.
