Utah Gov. Gary Herbert announced a special session to begin Wednesday, July 18, 2018, to address more than 10 bills.

A compromise was reached between the governor, state legislative leaders, and members of the Salt Lake City Council on Senate Bill 234, which implements a planned massive shipping hub in Salt Lake City.

Gov. Herbert also said the Legislature will take a look at the state sales tax policy in response to the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the collection of online sales tax revenue.

The New Hampshire Legislature will convene a special session on July 25, 2018, to address the recent U.S. Supreme Court ruling regarding the collection of tax for online sales.

Prior to the ruling, businesses only needed to collect and remit sales tax if they had a “physical presence” in the state.

The aim of the special session is to get lawmakers to pass a bill that will protect New Hampshire businesses from having to collect and remit sales taxes imposed by other states.

Puerto Rico’s Legislature was called into an extraordinary session July 3, 2018, to reconsider labor protections.

Ricardo Rosselló and the fiscal oversight board are pushing for the repeal of the law to make Puerto Rico more attractive to outside investors.

The session is scheduled to adjourn on July 22, 2018.

Ballots are being sent to Montana lawmakers to see if they would like to hold a special session this month to address concerns over ballot initiatives addressing mine regulations and tobacco taxes to extend the state’s Medicaid expansion program.

Some lawmakers have expressed concerns about the measures and would like to offer competing initiatives to give voters alternative policy choices.

The ballots are due July 15, and if the majority of lawmakers vote in favor, the special session would begin the following day.

The Vermont special session adjourned sine die on June 29.

Gov. Phil Scott called the special session after vowing to veto the budget bill passed last month to prevent tax rate increases.

On Monday, Scott announced his intention to let the third version of the budget bill become law without his signature to prevent a government shutdown on July 1.

The President of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of the Maine Legislature called a special session for June 19 and expected to last multiple days.

Lawmakers passed eight bills, including a bill creating the Department of Arts, Culture, and History.

Gov. Jim Justice signed a bill in March eliminating the Department of Education and the Arts.

Under the new bill, the commissioner of culture and history will become the curator of arts, culture, and history and report directly to the governor.

Gov. Phil Scott called a special session for May 23, 2018. The governor is planning to veto the state budget and property tax bills passed during the regular session.

Gov. Scott has promised to veto any legislation that increases taxes or fees. If vetoed, the Legislature has until the end of June to pass a spending bill before the new fiscal year commences on July 1.

Lawmakers hope Gov. Scott will sign the current bills and make the special session unnecessary.

The Mississippi Legislature adjourned sine die on March 28.

The 132^nd regular session adjourned with several unresolved issues, including a bill involving funding for roads and bridges.

Gov. Phil Bryant is expected to call a special session before July 1.
