Rhode Island lawmakers introduced a bill amending the Lobbying Reform Act to apply registration and reporting requirements to individuals who lobby at the local level.
Senate Bill 2512 expands the definition of lobbying to cover individuals who lobby municipal government executives and legislative bodies as well as local fire districts.
If passed, the new law will take effect immediately.

Lobbying semimonthly reporting deadlines are now extended for 60 days, pushing the April 5 due date to June 4.
In response to the exponential spread of COVID-19, Gov. J.B. Pritzker issued Executive Order 2020-18 on April 1.
The order extends prior executive orders for the duration of the Gubernatorial Disaster Proclamations, which currently extends through April 30.
The Legislature also remains suspended through next week.
Additionally, lawmakers have been asked to keep their calendars clear for possible return dates.

The New York Joint Commission on Public Ethics will be enabling the ability to file client semiannual reports and source funding disclosures through the online Lobbying Application on July 8.
Due to the short time frame of enabling the ability to file online and the statutory due date, JCOPE has granted an extension to submit client reports until July 31.
The extension only applies to semiannual reports and source of funding disclosures; lobbyist bimonthly reports are still due on July 15.

Chicago Releases New Lobbyist Ethics Training
The city of Chicago’s lobbyist ethics training for 2018-2019 is now available. The deadline to complete the mandatory training is before 11:59 p.m. on Monday, July 1. The ethics training course is available at the Chicago Board of Elections website.

The New York Joint Commission on Public Ethics has launched a new lobbyist reporting system. The Organization Profile section has gone live.
All Organization Profiles from the previous system have been transferred to the new lobbying application and require an update to ensure all the information is correct.
The Commission has created an informational page to help users navigate the new system.

The Joint Commission on Public Ethics will be launching a new online lobbying reporting system to coincide with the new lobbying regulations, effective January 1, 2019. The new system is expected to launch in November.
Reports covering 2018 must be submitted though the current system.
All filings covering 2019 activity, including registration and reportable business relationship forms, must be submitted through the new system.
Registrations for the 2019-20 biennial period may be submitted through the new system in early December.
The Commission will inform users when the registration function becomes available.
