House District 23 covers portions of Grenada, Calhoun, Lafayette, and Webster counties.
The seat became vacant when Beckett resigned to become the director of the Mississippi Public Utilities Staff.
The special election will be held on January 10, 2023.

Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves has scheduled a special election for state House District 119 on July 19 due to a vacancy created by the resignation of Rep. Sonya Williams-Barnes.
The primary will occur on June 7. A primary runoff will take place on June 28, if necessary.
Williams-Barnes is stepping down to begin work as Mississippi policy director for the Southern Poverty Law Center.

If needed, runoff elections will be held on November 23.
Sen. Tammy Witherspoon of District 38 resigned to serve as the newly elected mayor of Magnolia and Sen. Sampson Jackson of District 32 retired.

Two Mississippi state senators have announced their resignations effective June 30.
Sen. Tammy Witherspoon of District 38 has resigned to serve as the newly elected mayor of Magnolia, whose term began July 1.
Additionally, Sen. Sampson Jackson of District 32 has decided to retire after serving 30 years in the Legislature.
Gov. Reeves is expected to announce special elections to fill the vacancies in the coming days.

A runoff election is set for November 24 if needed.
The seat was vacated when Billy Andrews resigned in March.
The resignation, like Ramona Blackledge’s resignation in January, was due to House leadership ruling members could not collect state government pension while receiving legislative pay.
