The special election will fill the Connecticut House of Representatives District 4 seat left open by the resignation of Rep. Angel Arce, with months remaining on his term.
State Rep. Arce resigned last April due to allegations of inappropriate text messages with a teenage girl.

The seat was vacated by Laura Hoydick effective January 2, who was elected mayor of Stratford.
This is the second special election to be held in Connecticut this year, after the 15th Assembly District special election on January 9.

Connecticut Special Session Adjourns
After being delayed by a snowstorm, the Connecticut General Assembly adjourned on Monday, January 8. Both chambers overwhelmingly passed House Bill 7601, which restored funding to the Medicare Savings Program. Gov. Dannel Malloy has threatened to veto the bill.

Legislative leaders said they will address the budget shortfall but first want to reverse cuts to the Medicare Savings Program.

The General Assembly will convene a special session today, July 31, 2017, to vote on an over-due budget proposal. Lawmakers failed to pass a budget during this year’s regular session and are one month past the deadline for a new two-year budget.
Senator’s will vote to approve a labor deal made between Gov. Dannel Malloy and the employee unions to fund the state’s pension system. The House already approved the deal.
The Senate is evenly split among Democrats and Republicans, so a party line vote would require Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, a Democrat, to break the tie.

The Connecticut General Assembly adjourned the 2017 regular session Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Lawmakers will have to return for a special session after failing to reach an agreement on a two-year state budget.
For the second year in a row, Gov. Dannel Malloy declined to give the traditional after-session speech to members due to the Assembly not completing its work by the midnight deadline.
A budget must be finalized by June 30. Other legislation left hanging in the balance includes a bill to allow Tesla to build a dealership in the state and a proposed constitutional amendment to protect state parks.

Two special elections will take place on April 25, 2017, to fill vacancies in the Connecticut House of Representatives.
Gov. Dannel Malloy announced the elections for Assembly Districts 7 and 68 after the incumbents, Rep. Doug McCrory and Rep. Eric Berthel, won seats in the Senate during a special election on February 28.
District 7 consists of portions of Hartford, while District 68 contains Waterbury and part of Woodbury.
