The seat became vacant following the passing of State Rep. Ezequiel Santiago on March 15.
The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Santiago’s term through 2020.

Gov. Ned Lamont issued writs on Friday to set February 26 as the date for special elections to fill five vacancies.
The 3rd, 5th, and 6th Senate Districts as well as the 39th and 99th House Districts became vacant earlier this week when five members of the General Assembly resigned in order to accept jobs in Lamont’s administration.
There will be no primary elections to choose the nominees.

Five Connecticut lawmakers have accepted jobs in Gov. Ned Lamont’s administration and have resigned from the General Assembly.
State Representatives Chris Soto and James Albis as well as Senators Beth Bye, Terry Gerrantana, and Tim Larson submitted their resignations to the secretary of state this week.
Gov. Lamont has 10 days to announce special elections to fill each vacancy.

The Connecticut General Assembly adjourned sine die on May 9, 2018. Lawmakers took no action on a bill affecting campaign finance and elections.
House Bill 5526 would have modified registration requirements for political committees, expanded independent expenditure disclosure requirements, prohibited independent expenditures by foreign-influenced entities, and required online platforms to disclose purchasers of political advertisements.
Employer and lobbyist reports are due on the 10th day of the following month when the General Assembly is in regular session.

After being delayed by a snowstorm, the Connecticut General Assembly adjourned on Monday, January 8. Both chambers overwhelmingly passed House Bill 7601, which restored funding to the Medicare Savings Program. Gov. Dannel Malloy has threatened to veto the bill.

The General Assembly will convene a special session today, July 31, 2017, to vote on an over-due budget proposal. Lawmakers failed to pass a budget during this year’s regular session and are one month past the deadline for a new two-year budget.
Senator’s will vote to approve a labor deal made between Gov. Dannel Malloy and the employee unions to fund the state’s pension system. The House already approved the deal.
The Senate is evenly split among Democrats and Republicans, so a party line vote would require Lt. Gov. Nancy Wyman, a Democrat, to break the tie.

The Connecticut General Assembly adjourned the 2017 regular session Wednesday, June 7, 2017. Lawmakers will have to return for a special session after failing to reach an agreement on a two-year state budget.
For the second year in a row, Gov. Dannel Malloy declined to give the traditional after-session speech to members due to the Assembly not completing its work by the midnight deadline.
A budget must be finalized by June 30. Other legislation left hanging in the balance includes a bill to allow Tesla to build a dealership in the state and a proposed constitutional amendment to protect state parks.
