The seat became vacant when Rep. Gerald Brady resigned following an ethics investigation.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of the two-year term set to expire at the end of this year.

Assemblywoman Autumn R. Burke announced she is resigning as the representative of California’s District 62.

Burke cited the need to spend more time with her family as the reason for her departure.

Gov. Newsom declared the special election for the vacant seat will be held on June 7, with the special primary being held on April 5.

Gov. Mills announced a special election for Maine Senate District 7 to be held on June 14.

The seat became vacant when Sen. Louis Luchini resigned to take a position with the U.S. Small Business Administration.

Early voting for Austin, Texas’s District 4 election has begun.

The election was called following Greg Casar’s announcement he will be running for Congress in District 35.

Early voting will be open until January 21, with polls closed on January 17 in observation of Martin Luther King Day.

The election will be held on Tuesday, January 25.

A second special election is also expected to be called to fill the House District 19 seat Rep. Jake Wheatley vacated when he resigned to become Mayor Gainey’s chief of staff.

New York Gov. Hochul announced special elections for February 15 to fill vacancies in Assembly District 60 and 72.

The seats became vacant when former Assembly members Charles Barron and Carmen De La Rosa began serving on the New York City Council.

Connecticut Gov. Lamont announced a special election for Assembly District 71 to be held on February 22.

The seat became vacant when Rep. Anthony “Tony” D’Amelio retired last week.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of the two-year term set to expire in December 2022.

Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced a special election to fill a vacancy in the House of Representatives following the election of District 15 Rep. Abdullah Hammoud as mayor of Dearborn.

The special primary election will be held on March 1 and the general election will be held on May 3.

Gov. Andy Beshear announced a special election on February 22, 2022, to fill the vacancy in Kentucky House District 42 created by the resignation of Rep. Reginald Meeks.

Under state law, when a legislator vacancy occurs while lawmakers are not in session, the Governor may call the special election.

Meeks, who has represented House District 42 since January 2001, announced his retirement December 17, saying that he needed time to focus on his health and family.

The winner of the election will take office as soon as the results are certified by both the Jefferson County Board of Elections and the State Board of Elections.

A special election for Houston City Council District G is scheduled for January 25, 2022.

The special election was called after former incumbent Greg Travis resigned on October 27 to run for the District 133 seat in the Texas House of Representatives.

Travis served on the 16-member Houston City Council from 2016 to 2021.

Five candidates filed to run in the special election by the deadline: Mary Nan Huffman, Piper Madland, D. Duke Millard, Raul Reyes Jr., and Houshang Taghizadeh.
