Lawmakers are considering a bill to move up California’s presidential primary election date.

Senate Bill 568 seeks to move the presidential primary date from the first Tuesday in June to the third Tuesday in March.

The move is aimed at getting presidential candidates to prioritize issues important to Californians during the primary process.

Senate Bill 568 would also move up primary elections in statewide office and legislative races to help eliminate potential voter confusion from multiple election dates.

Two Senate bills pertaining to Michigan election law were signed by Gov. Rick Snyder on February 19, 2015.

Senate Bills 44 and 45 change the date of the presidential primary election to the second Tuesday in March.

The bills will take effect in time for the 2016 presidential primary election.

The Missouri Legislature will consider legislation to cancel the state’s 2012 presidential primary. Here is an Associated Press article that appeared in the Columbia Missourian announcing the possible action: “Missouri to consider abolishing presidential primary.”

According to the article: “Senate President Pro Tem Rob Mayer says his chamber will convene Monday to consider legislation canceling Missouri’s 2012 presidential primary … repealing that law could save the state from spending millions of dollars on a purely symbolic election.”

Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal signed House Bill 509 into law, changing the date of the state’s presidential primary. The primary moves to March on the first Saturday which follows the first Tuesday. Previously, the presidential primaries were held in February.

The change in law becomes effective immediately.
