Incumbent Gov. Gina Raimondo has easily won reelection, despite a crowded field vying for her office.
Gov. Raimondo faced Republican Allan Fung, three independents, and one minor candidate who was arrested in October for possession of 48 pounds of marijuana.
Despite the crowd, Raimondo still garnered almost 53 percent of the vote, with Fung a distant second at 37 percent.
Raimondo made job creation a priority in her first term. Unemployment has dropped from the highest in the nation to being in step with the national average in her first four years.

RI Gov. Signs Campaign Finance Legislation

On April 23, Rhode Island Gov. Gina M. Raimondo signed four campaign finance bills into law.
The bills make numerous amendments to state election laws regarding state campaign finance, including the requirement for segregated accounts, appointments of deputy treasurers, and filing of fourth quarterly account statements with the Board of Elections. The bills signed were Senate Bill 681 and House Bills 5789, 5840, and 5920.
In her press release Raimondo said, “Strong campaign finance rules and a more transparent system highlight our commitment to accountability for those who serve in government across the state.”
The legislation will take effect on January 1, 2016.

Campaign Money in Rhode Island
A list of the state’s politicians with the most campaign funds.
GoLocalProv.com published a snapshot of campaign fundraising in Rhode Island. They compiled a list of the candidates with the top figures in campaign funds as the state enters the race toward the 2o12 elections.
The list is topped by U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), U.S. Senator Jack Reed (D-R.I.), and state General Treasurer Gina Raimondo. You will also find Governor Lincoln Chaffee at the number 9 position, as well as a number of mayors, state senators, and state representatives in the list.
