The Supreme Court ruled the limit was unconstitutional. That is despite concerns not just from good-government groups that argued lifting the cap could fuel corruption by allowing campaign donors to essentially pay candidates directly by contributing to the repayment of their personal loans.

California – Gil Cedillo and Kevin de León Stripped of City Council Committee Posts Over Racist Leak
