The seat became vacant in July following the resignation of Shannon Phillips, who began employment at the University of Lethbridge’s Department of Political.
On November 20, Alberta’s Chief Electoral Officer, Gordon McClure, had confirmed a writ was issued to administer a by-election in Electoral Division 72, which is known as Lethbridge-West.
While unofficial results will be available after voting closes on election day, the official results will not be announced until December 28.

On April 15, 2024, a by-election will be held for the seat in Newfoundland and Labrador’s House of Assembly for the District of Fogo Island-Cape Freels.
Travis Wooley, Acting Chief Electoral Officer of Newfoundland and Labrador, issued the election writ on March 17.
The seat had become vacant on January 22 after the death of Derrick Bragg, who had served most recently as the Minister of Fisheries, Forestry and Agriculture.

On March 4, a federal by-election will be held in the electoral district of Durham (Ontario) to fill a vacancy in the House of Commons.
On August 3, 2023, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that Member of Parliament Erin O’Toole’s seat was vacant.
O’Toole had resigned from the seat after being removed as leader of the Conservative Party earlier in 2023.
The date for the election was not announced until January 28, which signaled the start of the by-election period.

Sometime before July 14, 2024, a by-election will be announced for the seat in the House of Commons representing Toronto–St. Paul’s in the province of Ontario.
On January 17, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for Toronto—St. Paul’s (Ontario) became vacant following the resignation of Carolyn Ann Bennett.
Bennett officially resigned from her seat in the House of Commons on January 16, 2024, and was appointed on the same day as Canada’s Ambassador to Denmark.
Under the law, the by-election date must be announced between January 27 and July 14, 2024, and will signal the start of the by-election period.
According to Elections Canada, the earliest date the by-election can be held is March 4, 2024.

MPP Laura Mae Monique Lindo, who was a member of the Legislative Assembly of Ontario since 2018, resigned on July 13 in order to work at the philosophy department at the University of Waterloo.
In addition to a blackout on political advertising from November 29 to November 30, the publication of election surveys that have not previously been made public is prohibited between 12:01 a.m. and 9:00 p.m. on November 30.

On November 30, a by-election to fill the vacancy of Councillor for Ward 20, Scarborough Southwest in Toronto, Ontario, Canada will be held.
The seat became vacant on July 26 because of the resignation of former Councillor Gary Crawford, who instead ran in the July 27 by-election held for the vacant Scarborough-Guildwood parliament seat that he did not win.
The nominations to run for the office did not open until September 7 and close at 2 p.m. on October 16.

The election will be held to fill the vacant seat of former Member of the National Assembly Joëlle Boutin, a member of the governing Coalition Avenir Québec, who resigned on July 19 in order to join the private sector. The seat became vacant on July 31.
The by-election was announced by the government of Quebec on August 30.

On June 19, federal by-elections will be held in the electoral districts of Notre-Dame-de-Grâce–Westmount (Quebec), Oxford (Ontario), Winnipeg South Centre (Manitoba) and Portage–Lisgar (Manitoba) to fill vacancies in the House of Commons.
From December 2022 until March of this year, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received four separate official notices from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seats were vacant. However, the dates for the election were not announced until May 14, when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau announced a single election date for all four of the vacant seats in the House of Commons.
Three of the seats became vacant by retirement, and the fourth, for Winnipeg South Centre, became vacant upon the death of MP Jim Carr. The announcement date of the by-elections signals the start of the by-election period.

On January 3, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for Calgary Heritage (Alberta) became vacant following the resignation of Bob Benzen. Benzen officially resigned from his seat in the House of Commons on December 31, 2022, in order to return to private life, according to CTV news.
Under the law, the by-election date must be announced between January 14 and July 2, 2023, and will signal the start of the by-election period. According to Elections Canada, the earliest date the by-election can be held is February 20, 2023.

On May 30, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for Mississauga–Lakeshore (Ontario) became vacant following the resignation of Sven Spengemann. Spengemann officially resigned from his seat in the House of Commons on May 28 in order to work for the United Nations.
The by-election date was announced on November 6. The Elections Canada office in Mississauga–Lakeshore will open soon, according to an Elections Canada press release.

On March 15, a by-election will be held to elect a member to the Legislative Assembly of Alberta for the electoral division of Fort McMurray-Lac La Biche.
After a six-month wait, and on the last possible day authorized by law, Alberta Chief Electoral Officer Glen Resler confirmed a writ was issued on February 15 to administer the election. MLA Laila Goodridge resigned in August 2021, to run for federal office. On September 20, 2021, she was elected as a Member of the Parliament in the House of Commons for Fort McMurray—Cold Lake.
Candidate nominations are now open and will end on February 25, 2022.

On August 24, Perrault had received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for Toronto Centre (Ontario) became vacant following the resignation of Bill Morneau. Morneau resigned amid controversies dealing with his involvement with the WE Charity scandal.
On September 1, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, had received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for York Centre (Ontario) became vacant following the resignation of Michael Levitt, who left his seat to become the CEO of the Canadian Friends of Simon Wiesenthal Centre for Holocaust Studies.
The Elections Canada offices in York Centre and Toronto Centre are expected to open soon, according to its press release. As a safety measure because of the COVID-19 pandemic, Elections Canada plans to implement physical distancing at polling places and Elections Canada offices.
