California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced he plans to call a special legislative session on December 5 to tackle California’s escalating gas prices.
Currently, California’s average gas price is consistently over $2 more than the national average.
Newsom has requested the Legislature to approve a new tax that would require oil companies to pay back excessive profits to consumers.

Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order 175 calling for a special session of the Wisconsin Legislature to begin Tuesday, October 4 to consider and act upon two proposals allowing voters to introduce ballot initiatives and amending the constitution to create a statewide binding referendum process that would allow voters to propose laws and constitutional amendments and repeal state laws.
Currently, any constitutional amendment must be passed by two consecutive legislatures before it is placed on a ballot for voters.

Lawmakers ended a three-day special session by passing a $213 million package for flood recovery and a plan to help schools in eastern Kentucky.
Signed into law by Gov. Beshear on Friday, the law establishes the East Kentucky State Aid Funding for Emergencies (EKSAFE), to assist counties named in the federal declaration.
Legislators emphasized this is the first step and they expect additional legislation next year when lawmakers meet in regular session.
The General Assembly is scheduled to convene for the 2023 regular session on Jan 3.

This special session comes on the heels of Idaho’s historic surplus, one that has the possibility of creating $2 billion.

Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson has called for a special session in August to discuss possible tax cuts.
The previously estimated Arkansas budget surplus for the 2022 fiscal year of $1.4 billion grew to a record $1.6 billion.
The special session will be held the week of August 8.
This affects lobbyist reporting.
Lobbyists who are registered to lobby the General Assembly are required to file a monthly report for any month the General Assembly is in session.
The report will be due August 10, which is 10 days after the month of the session.

Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb signed a proclamation calling a special session of the General Assembly beginning July 6 to take action on his plan to distribute $1 billion in tax relief to Hoosiers due to inflation.
The special session also would open the door for lawmakers to pass legislation addressing other issues.
Special sessions may last up to 30 session days, but no more than 40 calendar days after they begin.
The ban on contributions during session does not apply to special sessions in Indiana.

The Wisconsin Ethics Commission issued a memo reminding lobbyists of the ban on contributions while lawmakers are in special session.
Gov. Tony Evers signed Executive Order 168, calling for a special session of the Legislature to begin Wednesday, June 22.
The Ethics Commission announced the window for personal contributions from lobbyists closes at 12:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 22 and lasts until the special session is adjourned.
Once the session is adjourned, the commission will provide notice the window is open.
