On May 18, the 2016 second special session of the 61st Utah Legislature adjourned sine die.

The one-day special session restored funding to various educational programs throughout the state. The funding had been vetoed by Gov. Gary Herbert earlier this year.

On May 18, the Alaska Legislature hit the constitutional limit on session length of 121 days in session without reaching a budget deal. Gov. Bill Walker immediately called a special session scheduled to begin May 23.

In addition to the budget, the issue of oil and gas tax credits will also be addressed in the special session.

The Legislature finished the fiscal session on May 5, 2016, with the formal sine die adjournment scheduled for Monday, May 9, 2016.

Legislators will return on May 19 for a special legislative session to address Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s highway funding plan.

The Legislature adjourned sine die late Wednesday, May 4, 2016.

Lawmakers started the impeachment process of Gov. Robert Bentley and passed an education budget. The general fund added $15 million to Medicaid, but left an $85 million deficit. Bentley is expected to call for a special session to address the deficit.

The Connecticut General Assembly adjourned its regular session yesterday, May 4, 2016, without reaching a deal on the state budget.

As time ran out on the session, constitutionally mandated to end at midnight, Democratic leaders postponed a vote on the budget and will return next week for a special session. The Senate announced the special session will begin on May 12.

The 90th Arkansas General Assembly entered its second extraordinary session on Wednesday, April 6, to consider Gov. Asa Hutchinson’s Medicaid proposal. Hutchinson believes the proposal can expand the state’s Medicaid program while also encouraging recipients to stay employed and to take responsibility for their health care.

The legislature’s fiscal session is slated to convene on Wednesday, April 13.

The North Carolina Legislature adjourned a special session on Wednesday, March 23, 2016.

Before adjourning, the Legislature ratified a bill to block local governments from enacting nondiscrimination ordinances regarding the use of public bathrooms.

North Carolina legislative leaders have announced a special legislative session convening Wednesday, March 23 to address a Charlotte nondiscrimination ordinance that would otherwise take effect April 1.

The regular session of the General Assembly is not scheduled to meet until April 25.

Alaska Gov. Bill Walker is willing to call a special legislative session if lawmakers do not pass his tax or revenue proposals to address the growing budget deficit. The state Department of Revenue forecasts a dramatic drop in overall funding and predicts low oil prices will continue for several more years.

To help shrink the multi-billion dollar deficit, Walker proposed tax increases, including the reinstitution of a personal income tax. He also suggested restructuring the use of the Alaska Permanent Fund earnings to change how the annual dividends most Alaskans receive are calculated.

The regular legislative session is set to adjourn April 17.

A special legislative session has been called to start on April 6, a week before the 2016 regular session kicks off. The special session will address passing a new form of Medicaid expansion in the state.

Lawmakers will vote on the issue during the April 6 special session, and will vote to fund the program in a fiscal session starting April 13.

On February 18, Gov. Pat McCrory called a special session of the General Assembly, for the purpose of drawing new congressional district maps. The new maps are needed because two congressional districts have been declared unconstitutional by the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina just ahead of the upcoming primary election.

The regular session of the General Assembly is not scheduled to meet until April 25.

On February 5, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards called a special session of the Legislature to meet on February 14. The purpose of the session is to focus on fiscal issues concerning the state, including a call for reductions in the state’s ordinary operating expenses, new legislation affecting rates and brackets for state income tax, new legislation with regard to state contracts, and new legislation addressing the state sales tax on telecommunications services. Additionally, the governor is asking for a state constitutional amendment relating to deductible items in computing state income tax. In all, the session will address 36 items.

The regular session of the Legislature is not scheduled to meet until March 14. The governor’s proclamation specifies the special session is to extend no later than March 9.

Gov. Phil Bryant has announced a special session of the legislature to consider economic incentives to bring two development projects to the state. The session, running concurrently with the regular session, began today, February 4, 2016.

During the special session, lawmakers will be exclusively considering the construction of a tire plant outside of Jackson and a project to help a Gulfport shipyard.

Gov. Dannel Malloy announced he will be calling the General Assembly into special session after reaching a tentative deal with fellow Democrats on the state’s budget deficits. The session will begin December 8, 2015.

While the governor and Democrats have, for the most part, come to an agreement, Republican members of the legislature are not yet on board. It is unclear whether the lack of bipartisan support will hamper passage of any bill introduced.
