Maine Gov. Mills and Secretary of State Shenna Bellows announced a special election to be held on November 2 for House District 86.

The seat became vacant when Rep. Justin Fecteau resigned in July to pursue an out-of-state career opportunity.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of the two-year term that is set to expire December 6, 2022.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott has selected September 28 as the date of the House District 118 special election to replace former state Rep. Leo Pacheco.

Pacheco resigned effective August 19 to accept a position with San Antonio College.

House District 118 is in San Antonio and covers parts of Bexar County south and east of the city.

New Hampshire Gov. Sununu announced a special election to be held on December 7 to fill the vacant state representative seat for Rockingham County District 6.

The seat was vacated when Rep. Anne Copp moved out of the district this summer.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of the term that is set to expire on November 30, 2022.

Kentucky Secretary of State Michael Adams announced that special elections will be held on November 2 to fill three vacancies in the General Assembly per writs of election issued by Gov. Andy Beshear.

Voters will choose two new state representatives and one state senator.

House District 51 was vacated by the death of Rep. John “Bam” Carney; House District 89 was vacated by the resignation of Rep. Robert Goforth; and Senate District 22 was vacated by the death of Sen. Tom Buford.

Alabama Gov. Kay Ivey has announced a special primary election for House District 76 will be held on November 16 with runoff elections held on December 14, if necessary.

The special general election will be held on March 1, 2022.

The seat was previously held by Rep. Thad McClammy who passed away on August 21.

Rhode Island State officials scheduled a special election on November 2 for the state Senate seat in Providence District 3.

The seat became vacant when Sen. Gayle Goldin resigned to accept a position as a senior adviser in the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau.

A primary will be held on October 5, if necessary.

Texas Gov. Abbott announced a special election on November 2 for eight proposed constitutional amendments approved by the Texas Legislature during the 87th session.

The amendments include a prohibition on state or local restrictions on religious services and a provision allowing certain charitable raffles at rodeo venues.

On August 6, Gov. Greg Abbott announced a special election for State House District 10 is to be held on August 31 to fill the vacancy caused by the election of Representative Jake Ellzey to the 6th Congressional District on July 27.

As of the candidate filing deadline of August 12, there are a total of eight candidates running for this seat.

If necessary, a special general runoff election will be scheduled.

The winning candidate will serve the remainder of Ellzey’s term through January 2023.

Iowa Gov. Kim Reynolds issued a proclamation to schedule a special election for House District 37 on September 14 to fill the vacancy caused by the death of Rep. John Landon on July 29, 2021.

Iowa law requires a special election to be called within five days following a vacancy in the Iowa legislature.

There is no primary, and candidates will be nominated directly by political parties.

The winning candidate will serve the remainder of Landon’s term, which runs through 2022, and the seat will come up for election again next year.

The provincial general election for Nova Scotia will be held on Tuesday, August 17.

This 41st provincial general election will be held to elect a member in each of the 55 electoral districts to serve in the House of Assembly.

On July 17, the Chief Electoral Officer Richard Temporale received an order from the Governor in Council for the election. Upon this notice, Temporale issued writs of election for all 55 electoral districts.

The province’s last general election was held on May 30, 2017.

The Pennsylvania Speaker of the House announced a special election for House District 113 on November 2, the same day as the general election.

The district seat became vacant former Rep. Marty Flynn won a special election to join the state Senate.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Flynn’s term until the end of 2022.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee has announced special election dates to fill the vacancy left by the late Rep. Mike Carter who died of pancreatic cancer last month.

The special general election will be held on September 14 after the special primary election on July 27.

Sometime before November 16, 2021, a by-election will be announced for the seat in the House of Commons representing Haldimand–Norfolk in the province of Ontario.

On May 20, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for Haldimand–Norfolk (Ontario) became vacant following the resignation of Diane Finley. On May 11, Finley resigned from her seat in the House of Commons, explaining she was leaving on the same date of the death of her late husband, Senator Doug Finley. “It just seems fitting and symbolic that I also end my service and exit politics on the same date,” explained MP Finley in her press release.

Under the law, the by-election date must be announced between May 31 and November 16, 2021, and will signal the start of the by-election period. According to Elections Canada, the earliest date the by-election can be held is July 12, 2021.

Louisiana election officials have scheduled a special election for the District 7 seat in the Louisiana State Senate for July 10.

The seat became vacant after Troy Carter was elected to the U.S. House to represent Louisiana’s 2nd Congressional District on April 24.

The primary will take place on June 12, and the filing deadline is on May 7.
