Former Houston mayor and current U.S. Congressman Sylvester Turner unexpectedly died March 5 at the age of 70 after suffering a medical emergency. Turner’s 18th Congressional District seat will be filled through a special election to determine who will finish his current term. Gov. Greg Abbott will call for a special election in accordance with state laws. The special election is typically held to coincide with a regularly scheduled election date. The next regularly scheduled election is May 3.
