South Carolina Special Session Called

Directly following the adjournment of the regular legislative session on May 14, Gov. McMaster called a special session to begin the following day to consider redistricting efforts in South Carolina. During the regular legislative session, the vote to create a new political map failed. If a decision on redistricting is not made soon, there is a possibility the state’s June primary will be delayed until August. Lawmakers must also contend with several other pressing matters during the session such as the state’s budget, which was not finalized by the end of the regular session.
