Mississippi Schedules Special Session

Gov. Tate Reeves called for a special session to address redistricting efforts in Mississippi. The session is expected to begin May 13, 21 days after the decision of the U.S. Supreme Court case Louisiana v. Callais. The court struck down Louisiana’s congressional redistricting that added a new majority-minority district, finding lawmakers relied too heavily on race, resulting in unconstitutional racial gerrymandering under Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act.
