Sometime before March 30, 2019, a by-election will be announced for the seat in the House of Commons representing York–Simcoe in the province of Ontario.

On October 2, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for York–Simcoe (Ontario) became vacant following the resignation of Peter Van Loan, who resigned on September 30. Van Loan plans to return to the practice of law, according to Bradford Today.

Under the law, the by-election date must be announced between October 12, 2018, and March 30, 2019, and will signal the start of the by-election period. According to Elections Canada, the earliest date the by-election can be held is November 19, 2018.

A special election for the Bergen County sheriff will be held on November 6, aligning with the general election.

The former sheriff, Michael Saudino, resigned after controversial comments he said in January were made public.

The county will send out an addendum to the already sent absentee ballots.

State Senator Steve Fitzgerald resigned from the state Senate on Monday.

A convention will be held by Republican precinct committeemen and committeewomen to select someone to fill the vacancy, and the person selected will be officially appointed by the governor.

The Fifth District includes Leavenworth, Lansing, Piper, and portions of Wyandotte County.

The Los Angeles Unified School District will hold a special election on March 5, 2019, to fill the vacancy for the Board of Education’s District 5 seat.

The seat was vacated earlier this year by Ref Rodriguez, who is currently facing felony and misdemeanor charges related to an alleged money laundering scheme.

A special runoff election will be held on May 14, 2019, if no candidate receives a majority of the vote.

Gov. Phil Bryant announced a special election for November 6, to fill a seat in House District 85.

The special election will fill the seat vacated by Rep. America Middleton.

The winner will complete the last year of Middleton’s term.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo has stated he will call a special election to fill U.S. Rep. Louise Slaughter’s term.

Slaughter served as a U.S. Rep. for New York’s 25^th District for over three decades and passed away on March 16, 2018.

The special election will coincide with the general election on November 6, 2018.

On August 3, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for Outremont (Quebec) became vacant following the resignation of Tom Mulcair, who left office to teach at the at Universite de Montreal and to become a regularly scheduled political commentator at CJAD radio and CTV news.

Under the law, the by-election date must be announced between August 14, 2018, and January 30, 2019, and will signal the start of the by-election period. According to Elections Canada, the earliest date the by-election can be held is September 24, 2018.

Secretary of State Warner announced the official registration dates for a special election to fill the seat vacated by former state Supreme Court Justice Menis Ketchum.

The special election will occur concurrently with the general election on November 6.

Ketchum recently agreed to plead guilty to a felony criminal count of wire fraud for using a vehicle and fuel card owned by the state for personal travel.

Ketchum resigned effective July 27 with two years left on his term.

Gov. Phil Bryant announced a special election on November 6, to fill a seat in House District 31.

The special election will fill the seat vacated by Rep. Sara Thomas last month.

Thomas has served in the role for 21 years and cited the desire to spend more time with family as her reason for resigning.

Del. Greg Habeeb announced his resignation from the House of Delegates 8th District. Habeeb has served in the House since winning the seat in a special election in January 2011.

Habeeb cited the desire to spend more time with family and increased responsibilities at his law firm as reasons for stepping down.

Speaker of the House Kirk Cox will review dates and announce a special election to fill the seat in the near future.

Del. Habeeb’s final day as a member of the House of Delegates will be August 31.

A bill in Ohio has passed both the House and the Senate preventing special primary elections from occurring if only one candidate files for the election, or if no one files to be on the ballot.

If only one person files, he or she will automatically appear on the general election ballot.

If House Bill 18 is signed by Gov. Kasich, it would prevent the state from paying for unnecessary election costs.

Gov. Greg Abbott set the special election for House District 52 for November 6, 2018, the same day as the general election.

The seat was vacated by Larry Gonzales, who decided to retire early after previously announcing he would not seek another term.

House District 52 contains parts of Williamson County.
