Special elections for the 114th and 190th House Districts have been set for March 12, 2019.

The 114th District became vacant in October after the death of State Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich, while the 190th District was vacated after Vanessa Lowery Brown was convicted in a bribery case late last year.

Candidates for the seats will be chosen by a process determined by the political parties.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced January 29, 2019, as the special election date for House Districts 79 and 145.

Rep. Joe Pickett of District 79 will resign effective January 4, 2019, citing health issues.

In District 145, Rep. Carol Alvarado resigned after being elected to the state Senate.

After a 16-year legislative career, state Rep. Mike Pitts will step down from his House District 14 seat on January 3, 2019.

The first to announce his candidacy for the seat is Stewart Jones, a small business owner and former chairman of the Lakelands Republican Liberty Caucus.

The primary election to fill Pitts’ seat will take place on February 19, 2019, and the special election is scheduled for April 23, 2019.

If a runoff is needed, it will take place on March 5, 2019.

State Representative Vanessa Lowery Brown resigned on December 12 under protest.

In October, she was convicted of bribery, conflict of interest, and failure to properly file a financial disclosure report. The state constitution prevents her from continuing to serve in the Legislature.

Lowery Brown plans to appeal her conviction.

A special election could be set as early as March to fill the western Philadelphia seat.

A special election was announced for January 8, 2019, to fill the seat for House District 5.

The seat is vacant after the death of Rep. John Meadows due to stomach cancer.

The winner of the election will serve the full two-year term of Rep. Meadows.

If necessary, a runoff election is scheduled for February 5.

The Atlanta City Council will hold a special election for District 3 on March 19, 2019.

The District 3 seat is vacant after Councilman Ivory Lee Young Jr. passed away on November 16 due to cancer.

The winner of the special election will serve the remainder of Young’s term until 2021. .

If required, a runoff election will be held April 16, 2019.

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam announced a special election to fill the vacancy in Senate District 32, which includes Tipton County and part of Shelby County.

The seat was formerly held by Mark Norris, who resigned after being appointed by the president as a U.S. District Judge for the Western District of Tennessee.

The special primary election will take place on January 24, 2019, with early voting starting January 4, 2019.

The special general election for the seat will be held on March 12, 2019, with early voting beginning February 20, 2019.

A special election was called for December 18 for House District 14.

The seat is vacant after Rep. Christian Coomer withdrew from his re-election campaign to accept an appointment to the Georgia Court of Appeals.

A runoff is scheduled for January 15, if necessary.

Loudoun County officials announced a special election for the 33rd state Senate District seat on January 8, 2019.

Candidates have until November 19 to file for the seat, but Democrats and Republicans will meet this weekend to vote for their nominees.

The seat was vacated by Congresswoman-elect Jennifer Wexton who was elected in the general election to represent Virginia’s 10th District.

The winner of the special election will complete Wexton’s term until December 31, 2019.

On December 3, an election will be held for the electoral district of Leeds–Grenville–Thousand Islands and Rideau Lakes (Ontario) to fill a vacancy in the House of Commons.

The seat was held by MP Gordon Brown, who died unexpectedly of a heart attack on May 2.

Although the seat became vacant in the spring, the election date was not chosen until October 28, which signals the start of the election period.

Speaker Kirk Cox formally calls a special election to fill House District 24 on December 18. The House of Delegates seat must be filled before the 2019 legislative session begins in January. Del. Ben Cline vacated the 24th District seat after winning the election for Virginia’s 6th Congressional District in the November general election.

Sen. Majority Leader Mark Norris was appointed as judge to a U.S. District Court on October 11.

Norris announced on October 16 that due to time restraints and official duties he won’t be able to step down from his District 32 Senate seat by Election Day on November 6.

This will trigger a special election and potentially a temporary appointment until the seat is filled.

Sen. Rob Shadoin, a republican representing the state’s Ruxton area, announced he will resign his seat in the legislature and take a position with the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Shadoin is currently serving the third year of his second term and is known as a moderate republican lawmaker and consistent ally of Gov. John Bel Edwards.

Once a resignation date has been announced, the state will likely call a special election to fill his seat.

Sometime before March 30, 2019, a by-election will be announced for the seat in the House of Commons representing York–Simcoe in the province of Ontario.

On October 2, the Chief Electoral Officer of Canada, Stéphane Perrault, received official notice from the Speaker of the House of Commons that the seat for York–Simcoe (Ontario) became vacant following the resignation of Peter Van Loan, who resigned on September 30. Van Loan plans to return to the practice of law, according to Bradford Today.

Under the law, the by-election date must be announced between October 12, 2018, and March 30, 2019, and will signal the start of the by-election period. According to Elections Canada, the earliest date the by-election can be held is November 19, 2018.
