Kentucky State CapitolGovernor Steve Beshear has called a special session of the Legislature to begin August 19, 2013. The Legislature will tackle redistricting, heading off a lawsuit by the ACLU on behalf of Louisville-area voters, requesting a three-judge panel to draw the legislative districts. The Kentucky Supreme Court ruled the Legislature’s original redistricting plan unconstitutional last year, finding the districts were not balanced by population. Governor Beshear hopes the Legislature will begin the special session with new redistricting plans drawn, in order to avoid a prolonged session.
